Hydroponic Mason Jar

What you’ll need:

  • Mason jar with a 3″ mouth
  • 3″ netbasket or plastic pot Rockwool cube
  • Air tube holder (an old Sharpie works great)
  • Seedling or seed (we recommend basil, spinach, lettuce, or some other leafy greens)
  • Aquarium air pump
  • Aquarium air stone
  • Aquarium air tubing

Cut the air tube holder to length. The air tube holder should extend from the bottom of the net basket to just above the top edge.

Cut the air tube hole in the net basket. Make sure the hole is large enough for the air tube to pass through freely, but not so large that the air tube holder fits through.

Feed the air tube through the air tube holder and attach the air stone below the net basket.

Place the net basket in the mouth of the mason jar. Make sure the air stone is sitting flat on the bottom the jar.

Fill the mason jar to the bottom of the net basket with water.

Place your rockwool cube with seedling in the net basket and hold it in place with some expanded clay pellets.

Now you just need to hook up your air pump to the air tubing and you’ll be all set!

That’s all there is to it! Your hydroponic mason jar is ready to start producing delicious crops for you.
